Seeds of Learning is a four-page pre-school newsletter that is published four times a year (although schools can choose to do fewer issues).

The lead stories in past issues have included:

  • Toys for tots: Choosing toys to enhance children's development

  • Let the children play: A parent's guide to children's healthy physical development

  • Raising peaceable children: Give your child the tools to take on the world

  • Cures for kindergarten jitters

  • Young children and the library: Introducing your child to the wonderful world of literature

  • Easy as 1, 2, 3: Introducing young children to math

  • Tots and technology: Using the computer wisely with your young child

  • Choosing the right preschool for you and your child (Also: Signs of a great preschool)

  • Choosing books for your child (Also: Helping children create their own books)

  • Family Music Making: Nurturing a love of music in your child

  • Get moving even in the winter: It does young bodies (and brains) good!

  • Playing with print: Ways parents can encourage children’s writing success

  • Siblings, not rivals: Some practical ways for parents to help ease sibling rivalry

These newsletters include practical ideas for parents on how to help their pre-school children at home, as well as books, Web sites and other resources to learn more about the main topic.

An editorial board made up of a representative from each participating school helps us determine the story list for this newsletter and to edit the content. While each year we come up with a new story list, always tapping into the teachers and administrators at our client schools for their ideas on what elementary parents want to know more about. We also give schools the opportunity to choose from the lead stories in any of our back issues.

Besides the generic stories, there is space for each school to include its own information on page four. This information is usually submitted to us by a teacher in the district appointed to be our liaison. For those schools that have difficulty filling the space on page four, we can provide some generic copy.

Schools often get the names of their pre-school parents off of census lists and mail them home to them. In some cases, they only distribute the newsletter to parents who are enrolled in district pre-kindergarten programs.

The cost of this newsletter for the 2005-06 school year is:

  • $300 per issue for districts that already subscribe to the Communications Service. This price covers the lead feature story and layout of each issue. Printing is additional, based on the quantities needed. Under this arrangement, your back page copy is written by a communications specialists in the time allotted under your current contract with the Communications Service.

  • If you don't otherwise subscribe to the Communications Service and would like to purchase just our preschool parent newsletter series, you can either write your own back page copy or hire one of communications specialists to do that for you. In the case of the latter, the cost would be $900 per issue, plus printing.

Please contact us to view more copies of the newsletter and to get a specific price quote for your district that includes printing.
